We’ve been telling you about the Underground Rebel Bingo Club since they first appeared in Philadelphia over the summer. Since that time they have held a month event at various locations in Philadelphia, always under the guise of something far less sinful.

Tommy Up

On Saturday night, with the help of Deathwaltz Media, Rebel Bingo returned to The Blockley in University City, the place where it all began.

Unlike some of the recent Rebel Bingo meetings, this one was strictly for those over the age of 21.

Things got underway shortly after 9pm which some select tunes from DJ Tommy Up as people slowly trickled into the venue, collecting their bingo cards and body markers at the door. For those who wanted some more serious body art, two artists from Bodypaint.me were on hand for some face (and body) painting.

About 90 minutes after the doors opened, it was time to play some Rebel Bingo. The winner of the first game walked away with a stuffed panda, an ego boost, and a great story to tell his friends.

Next up was a live performance by Patty Crash. This marked the first live music performance we’ve seen at a Rebel Bingo event and we welcomed the edition. Patty was joined on stage by two dancers who sported nothing above the waste except crosses made from black tape (the horizontal bar strategically placed over their nipples).

After several tunes from Crash (whose voice sounds like pop star version of Betty Boop) interlaced with (intended) verbal jabs at her dancers, it was time to play more Rebel Bingo. The second winner walked away with a megaphone (which he used for the remainder of the evening, including while at a urinal in the Men’s room).

Other prizes won on the evening included a gigantic mirrored disco ball and a dinosaur costume.

As wonderfully weird as the night had been leading up to 12:30am (when the final prize was won), it got downright bizarre when Trippple Nippples from Tokyo, Japan took the stage. These three ladies (accompanied by a backing band), took the stage, painted blue with white polka dots, and what happened next is pretty much beyond explanation.

They sang, they screamed, they jumped into the crowd. They sprayed water, ate hotdogs, chewed them up and spit them on the crowd. They did “U.S.A!” chants, did splits, and fed each other strawberries. It was unlike anything we, or anyone else there, had ever seen before.

When they had completed their set, we knew we had witnessed something magical. Trippple Nippples will now continue their U.S. invasion as they open several shows for Devo on his upcoming tour (including upcoming shows: 12/13 – NYC, NY @ Irving Plaza & 12/16 – Atlantic City, NJ @ Showboat Casino).

Around 1am Tommy Up again took over on the decks and the party continued as fans continued to imbibe and dance until the Blockley closed at 2am.
