James Messinian Back With Another One of Those Blockley Rockin’ Beats

Despite its mainstream popularity growing by leaps and bounds in the past two years, EDM (electronic dance music) has actually had a strong underground following for decades.

In the late 1990′s, Philadelphia was a mecca of Drum & Bass, highlighted by the Platinum party at Fluid Night Club. Platinum showcased the biggest Drum & Bass DJs on the planet and had a stable of sick MCs, one of which was James Messinian.

Messianian toured the globe with some of the biggest names in DrumĀ & Bass and was one of the founding members of the Planet of the Drums tour which ran for over 10 years.

On Tuesday, May 15th, he returned to Philadelphia to play a DJ set at The Blockley with support from Dubsef, House Jawn, and his younger brother, ZiaspiN.

ZiaspiN kicked things off at 10pm with his DJ set. Although the venue was mostly empty when he began, a crowd soon started to build and get down on the dance floor.

Up next was live-band House Jawn which featured several MCs and multiple musicians. It was a nice groovy interlude between DJ sets.

Dubsef then cranked the energy back up at midnight as he dropped some sick beats on the crowd.

Finally it was time for Messinian to headline and he did not disappoint. MCing over his own DJ set he rocked the thrilled crowd until 2am, ending on a sick new tune by Figure.
